Intensive Care Unit
Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at LewisGale Hospital at Pulaski is an 8-bed unit. The ICU is designed to meet the needs of patients in the greater Southwest Virginia area requiring critical care monitoring and medical treatment. It combines advanced technology with specialized nursing and medical care to provide intensive care for critically ill and potentially critically ill patients. Each of the beds is equipped with monitors to provide invasive and non-invasive cardiopulmonary montoring of patients.
Why is a Patient Admitted to ICU?
Patients are admitted to ICU because they need intensive nursing and medical care. The seriousness of a patient's condition results in a nurse-to-patient ratio of normally 1 nurse to 1 or 2 patients. We are able to provide a wide range of life supporing therapies for patients including artificial ventilation, cardiovascular monitoring, temporary pacemaker insertion and the administration of IV medications for hemodynamic (flow of blood) purposes.
